Hey friends! Welcome to my latest project, A Few Things! (Yes, I know the name is terrible. You try coming up with something better and let me know.)
I don’t know if you’ve been keeping up with the news recently, but this summer wasn’t exactly the best time to look for work as an arts & entertainment writer/intern at a large media company. As the COVID-19 pandemic shut down newsrooms, and with them canceled every internship I’d applied to, I wanted to come up with a way to keep writing about what I love and build my skills as a culture writer and critic.
So this is the result, having drawn inspiration from my career idols like NPR’s Linda Holmes, John Paul Brammer and others: A semi-weekly (-ish) newsletter called A Few Things, where I’ll write about a few things in TV, music, movies or theatre that I’m vibing with or interested in. They may be recommendations, or they may expressly be non-recommendations. Either way, hopefully, you’ll come away with a better understanding of pop culture through my eyes and a queer lens.
I’m finishing up the first issue now, but here’s a preview: it includes Carly Rae Jepsen, Lady Gaga, and basketball. You don’t want to miss that! Subscribe now!
During non-summer times, I write about arts and culture as a staff writer and film critic at The Exponent at Baldwin Wallace University. Check us out over at bwexponent.com, and you’ll probably find something I wrote.
You can also find me on Twitter, where I make dumb jokes and cook up hot pop culture takes.
Sign up now so you don’t miss the first issue of A Few Things!
In the meantime, please consider telling your friends to subscribe!
